Thank you @readforeverpub for the complimentary ebook. A Love Catastrophe is one of those books that reminds me why contemporary romance (romcom) is my favorite genre to read. It's lighthearted and funny, but also deals with some heavier topics, and yet has some steam and lots of relationship building. Kitty & Miles start off annoyed with each other but then they connect over shared grief and realize they have more in common than they thought.
This book is definitely a cat lover's book. I'll be honest, I'm more of a dog person and non-shedding dogs specifically. The couple times where the MC mentioned having to have lids on coffee cups to avoid drinking cat hair just proved to me that I am not the type of person who's willing to deal with car hair. Kitty does a great job of understanding that not everyone loves cats and she shows equal amounts of love to Miles' dog.
What I love about this book is that the 3rd act conflict isn't between Kitty and Miles. It's a major moment for Kitty and Miles gets involved, but there's no breakup right before the HEA ending. This was a fun read to start off July.

This is a quick romance read that also has some deeper topics- grief & loss of a parent, loss of a young sibling, parent with dementia. There's also light moments with all the cats, a dog, and steamy scenes. I feel like if you're a cat lover, you'll appreciate this one more.

As a lifelong cat lover, this was fun! However, as much as cats were a primary theme, the thing that stood out to me the most was the way this covered grief and how it can affect people in different ways. It even made me tear up a couple of times. It was cute and creative and heartfelt and I really liked it.

I really loved this book. In many ways I felt like it was written just for me. Kitty is so unapologetically a cat lady and as a woman who talks to her cat and is obsessed with cats, I loved seeing that. Also all of the social awkwardness and putting your foot in your mouth - I feel that. One of the big things Miles and Kitty share is having lost a family member and gotten stuck living in a home that hasn’t moved on. While I haven’t lost anyone quite that close, I did lose my grandma recently and it was really tough. These parts of the book really made me sad but it was also kind of cathartic and a comfort to read. I am really hoping we will get a second book featuring Hattie and Josh - and more cats!!!

When I saw Helena Hunting was releasing a new book, I jumped in without even reading the blurb. I had complete trust that I was going to love this book, and I did. I'm going to break down all the fantastic things this romance has in store for you.
THE WRITING
Helena Hunting's writing was just as good and humorous as I expected. I knew I was going to love A Love Catastrophe from the first page. The opposites attract trope in this book was so fun. Plus, who doesn't love a good romance with pets with big personalities?
THE PLOT
Kitty is a cat lady down to her choice of shirts. Miles is a dog guy down to his patterned socks. He seems to have his life together, while she's still living in her childhood bedroom. They're two very different people who are extremely attracted to each other -- despite Miles' ability to say things about Kitty's favorite animals that makes her mad. Their interactions were so cute and oh so awkward that I couldn't wait for them to fall madly in love. Obviously, there's more to the story than this, but I don't want to spoil some of the important stuff.
THE CHARACTERS
Kitty's character was so fun. I mean, a lady named Kitty with a cat-sitting service called The Kitty Whisperer? I couldn't not love her. She fully embraced her love for cats in all things. I loved her slightly clumsy and awkward nature, her love for her family, and how she embraced her cat lady-ness. Miles was a little more buttoned up, but only slightly less awkward. The guy's ego took a little bit of a bashing comparing himself to the hockey players he worked with, but it was fun to see him gain confidence under Kitty's stare. I also loved how he tried to do his best working through his family relationships. Miles was a stand-up guy.
THEIR ROMANCE
Kitty and Miles were not love at first site. Well, I guess they could have been if it weren't for how they met. There was definitely some lust going on there. I know I've used the word "awkward" several times already, but that's the best word for these two. They went from completely awkward to completely adorable. They were different in so many ways, but there were some deep, emotional moments in their lives that brought them closer together. I loved how gentle they were with each other. Oh, and while this romance started out pretty slow burn, it ended up having the steam I would expect from Hunting. Kitty and Miles were fire! Plus, things between them were pretty low drama. I loved how fun their relationship was.
THE PETS
Oh, my goodness. The animals in this book were so entertaining! I loved Kitty's cats she took care of, but Miles' mom's cat Prince Francis was priceless. That hairless cat made me laugh so much! He was so naughty! I also loved Miles' Great Dane, Wilfred. There were lots of great animal moments, if you like those in your books.
THE OTHER PEOPLE INVOLVED
Family was a big part of this book. I loved Kitty's relationship with her sister and her mom. I also enjoyed how Miles was figuring out his relationship with his mom and what was going on with her. Then, there were their friends. Kitty had a cool friend named Kat. Miles had Josh. Then, there were a few players from the hockey team Miles worked for that were a lot of fun. Oh, and in addition to the cats Kitty watched, there were their owners. Lots of great character interactions and moments in this book.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
This book made my heart happy. It was well balanced between humor and emotion, and the romance was so adorable. If I had to point out any little thing that maybe I didn't love, it might have been the social media aspect. Not because it wasn't done well. It just took the story in a different direction than I was maybe expecting. That's not a bad thing and it didn't affect how much I loved reading this book. I loved this book so much I am hoping it's the start of a new series.
