An improvement over the previous volume, which focused a little too much on questionable history for my taste (I prefer to know where the lines are being blurred), this one gets right back to the author's strengths - an unexplained murder confuses the town, not least because no one knows the victim, but over the course of the book things move closer and closer to home. Another murder involves one of their own. It's predictable, but so well done you really don't mind. Brown's talent for making her characters feel real and fleshed out is in full swing, as even the newly introduced characters don't feel like they're quite so shiny. As another reviewer has also indicated, this time I knew who the murderer was about halfway through the book. I'm not sure if it's because of the formula Brown uses so well or because the clues were just more apparent and the red herrings less enticing than usual. I think I need to read the next few to be sure...

This book was an improvement over the last Mrs. Murphy novel. The danger and the crimes got personal again, as the lives of more than one Crozet resident are affected. There was also less of the animals waxing rhapsodic about human nature. The true identity of the missing Malibu wasn’t that much of a secret to me, but I enjoyed watching everyone else try to figure out what was going on. We get a little more about Harry’s personal life here, as Blair and Fair (a name combo that drives me insane) are both actively vying for her affections, but I’d like to see that storyline move a little faster. I’m curious to see Harry in a real relationship. This series was on life support, but this one has redeemed itself enough for me to continue reading.

This book is kind of a weird period piece because it's a mid-'90s book revolving around (among other things) a computer virus, which sure is different in the '90s than now.

Also the main character has a fairly anti-government streak which I think reads differently now than it did back when the book was written, but I guess I don't remember the early 90s that well so *shruggie emoji*

Anyway the mystery was fine.

OOOOO, this one was good. Love triangle, missing money, dead people. What else could you ask for? I don't know where the ideas come from, but keep em coming. Very interesting, couldn't wait to finish it. I find myself throughout the day wondering what Harry, Mrs. Hogendobber and the gang are up to and can't wait to pick up the book and see! As a reader, that's what keeps me coming back. I most assuredly will continue with this series. The characters are becoming dear friends of mine (or they remain on the fringes, depending on how they've treated Harry)and I love catching up at the end of the day.
