Is the flotsam that rolls in for the author? Or is it for you?

To be more accurate, I would give this chapbook 3.5 stars. But I am not going to add to the chorus of complaints and rehash the already well documented flaws in the Goodreads rating system.

I particularly enjoyed Pysanky; Return; Counting Colors; Casualties of a Three-Day, Island-Wide Power Outage: Peaches, Anorexia, Borders; Remkiashta; & Dialect of Skin

Poetry is not my forté, and so I feel that I am a particularly harsh critic (read as "perhaps not particularly objective"). I will say that I appreciated her imagery of the ocean and its distinct separation from the land, her apparent appreciation for the Pacific Northwest (as I am an early adopter of The Great Northwest Secession--here's looking at you Nate), and the connectedness of place with human experience.

This has been the beginning of an exercise in stretching myself and exploring new things, so perhaps it is unfair to judge these poems as I am now. I am now realizing that I am probably going to have to read my selection of poetry collections, anthologies, chapbooks, etc. at least twice so that I can be sure that I am either not growing at all, correctly assessing my taste in my initial impressions, or some combination of the two.
