I read this with my book club, and I am fairly certain I got a contact high from the sheer amount of weed that was smoked in this book. Like I am convinced that if I walked blindfolded into a bookstore, that I could find this book on smell alone.
I could not for the life of me connect with our MMC, Tristan. For 99% of the book he was worse than the actual "villian" of the story, Michael. He delights in torture, he threatens to have a woman 'graped' by everyone of his followers (Not once, but twice!), tortures his best friend, the list goes on. The man can't keep his hands off of his joints (coincidentally enough, both of his joints are stored in his trousers) he was either lighting up, or getting hard while Sara our FMC was constantly thinking about stuff oozing from her pores, or describing how her emotions directly effected her stomach or throat.
Every time I thought that Tristan was getting more bearable as an FMC, or being less of a creep like he would do or say something just weird or awful WITHIN two pages, every time.
The setting itself felt confusing and inconsistent at times. The year it takes place is listed at the beginning of the book, but it just doesn't translate into how things are described. There is an old timey castle still lit by candles and sconces, and yet there is also automobiles and guns. The old world setting also translates into a phrase in the book as well when someone is described as being like a red-headed step child, but REALLY that is just mild when compared to the "C*m seeping out of her pores" line.
It just wasn't for me.

I keep thinking I don't like this series but it is the second I've read in the series. I think I like knowing the spin on the story.

Maybe it's too dark for me but the spice doesn't even get me going.

I hope I don't read another one... but we'll see.

A great lion king retelling from the “villains” pov. Loved sera and Tristan’s story

Thanks to booktok last year I fall into the trap of being Emily McIntyre books, so I brought the set of Never After. After forgetting that I had these amongst my physical TBR, I finally found my copy of Scarred.

I'll be honest, I started reading this at 11pm at night after I had spent the day working in the heat and yelling loud enough to crackle my voice. So my attention for bed was high yet over exhaustion kept me awake.

In the first 13 pages, I felt like I didn't have a justifiable reason to care about Tristan or Sara. Neither want the throne, both come from royalty, both bore witness fo funerals in recent years/days. Yet I didn't know the characters.

I assume their written as teenagers cause they felt very juvenile, though in saying that this is also claimed as a period piece; set in the early 1900s  and I already know period piece styled books aren't my strong suit.

By page 26 I was really struggling with this. It felt like a wattpad story, as if there's information there yet missing at the same time. I really struggled to grasp the concept of the characters and the world within these pages.

By page 183 I realised how repeative this book really is. It's a lot of the same sentences repeated over and over, just written in different order and it started to bore me.

I felt like the book relies way too much on its dialogue while leaving everything else off the page.

I have no words to describe this book!

Once again, dark romance / smut is not my favorite genre but, after 'Hooked', I was willing to give it a go. After this book I don't know anymore. The characters are horribly written, the plot is terrible, and the pacing... Jesus... even if you only read this for the steamy, even that was the worst.

At least Hook had some (very few) redeeming qualities!
