I really like books like this. They reveal the characters while revealing just enough backstory for you to feel like you know their personalities while not really revealing anything at all. For the most part, it was a really funny book, but it still managed to put in some thought provoking, serious moments that were absolutely beautiful. For most of the book, I thought it was all fun and games with a copious use of the unreliable narrator technique. However, the ending of the book is serious and realistic enough to make you think that the events that took place in the book are true (at least in the world of the book). Crogan is a true hero, and it was funny to see
Spoiler how the "evil" sergeant turned out to be the good guy while the "herioc" captain was the one who really ruined everything in the end

Out of all the graphic novels I've read in the past few months, this is is tied for my favorite with the lost boy. This means that it is better than all those mainstream comics out there. So if you like this medium of storytelling, go read this book.
