This book is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Lori is a great writer and I appreciated how honest she was about her experiences. I loved this book and I love the author even more. This book met me where I was at if I was in the middle of a reading slump. Especially because I’m currently participating in therapy, this book gave me a different perspective of what therapy looks like from both sides of the couch.

I recommend this book to almost everyone but especially if you have an interest in mental health or if you have ever been through trauma that made you consider therapy. I recommend this to people who work in therapy social work or healthcare. It starts off slow and you may say “why do I care about this” but when the author starts drawing parallels between her experiences with that of her patients and experiences with her therapist it’s very interesting and enlightening.

I really enjoyed this book, and of course, I’m obsessed with trying to figure out who John is and what’s the name of his show!

I liked her thoughtfulness and deliberateness with her patients. I liked knowing she is also someone who needs a therapist as well. It’s given me a new lens to look at me in therapy through.

I enjoyed this one a lot! Lori Gottlieb is a great writer and takes the reader into the mind of a therapist who is seeking therapy. My main takeaway was that we need to humanize therapists and not expect them to be these unshakeable pillars that can solve all of our problems. Therapists are people with the same life struggles and also need someone to talk to. This is one of the better memoirs I've read in recent times.
