really great little adventure. Red begins his quest to complete his pokedex and battles other trainers along the way. quite dark compared to the anime.

I just needed a cute, short read and I love Pokémon. So here I am. Although this series does differ from the canon of the games and anime. And does have more adult themes (specifically in this one mild gore and violence).

Cute! Different from the show and the games but also follows a similar plot line. Wish there were some random sub stories that were not tackled in the show or games.

Okay...I grew up in the era of lots of Pokemon trading cards and kids who were obsessed with the anime. While I caught a few episodes here and there, I was never a huge fan. These move so well at our library so I thought that I would pick one up and see what it was like. This was great! I loved learning about all of the Pokemon and the competition between Red and Blue. According to more avid fans of the series, this is majorly different from the TV series. Honestly, I was used to hearing about Ash so it was shocking to hear more about Red and Blue instead. Even though I'm not as familiar with the characters and the world, this has me wanting to read the rest of the manga and then binge the anime. Overall, this was a great reading experience and I'm already looking forward to reading volume 2.

Pokemon adventures was a very fun read. You see Red deal with the problem of the day in each chapter, just as the anime does in each episode. I've seen the anime so when I was reading Pokemon I was definitely making a comparison. Also you meet Team Rocket, the antagonists of the series. I liked the fact that you can see the pokemon through the pokeballs. Furthermore I loved the fact that Red's first pokemon was a poliwag (my favourite pokemon). There was a lot of humour in the manga and I loved the adventure map at the end of the volume that showed you where Red had been and which pokemon he had encountered there. I was looking forward to the chapter about Lavender town and I wasn't dissapointed. However, I do hope that there will be a stronger story line further on in the series. Overall I really liked reading Pokemon and I am definitely going to read volume 2.

It's tough to really rate these since it's mostly art, but this one was a fun read to compare it to the show as I recently started watching it!

It threw me off at first that Ash was called Red in this one and Gary was called Blue; then I realized it's modelled more after the game LOL.

Loved getting to see all the art of my favs: Pikachu & Bulbasaur

I forgot how rocky the start of this series feels to me. I mean, it's good, but I think the real joy comes from seeing these characters at the beginning of their journeys and having the knowledge of how they'll grow in the following volumes.

I also have to remember this first arc is only THREE volumes, so no wonder it feels like we're moving quickly.
