"We found each other in life.
And we found each other in death.
So I will find you now, whatever's beyond the sea"
I am utterly broken. It has been a long time since a book made me cry this hard.
The angst? Absolutely perfect. I'm in so much pain. Ash and Poppy were so freaking adorable all the time to the point I could have read 3000 pages of their dates, loving gazes and touches. They encapsulate what it is to be drunk on love, especially first love, and they are everything my sapphic heart always wanted for a cute romance between girls. The novel wouldn't have worked the way it did if it didn't have the solid fundation of their love and personalities, so big respect to the author.
Also, the water and art imagery...? And how it comes around later... Oh, I was gagged. I love your brain, Tanya Byrne, even if it has destroyed my soul. And when I read the acknowledgement? I felt so fcking sorry and it only cemented this as a 5☆ read, because reading about how this book has helped her heal and deal with grief + how everyone was respectful of the time she needed for herself before writing again, only made me admire her more.
"She has the cosmos within her. I can see it, trying to free itself from the confines of her ribs and out, out through her skin. I can see the stars at the ends of her hair, tugging her towards the sky. Back to where she belongs"

Oh my Gods, this was a good read. It's gay, it's wholesome, it made me emotional a few times and more than I'd like to admit
This is my second read of 2022 and it's a great way to start off the year! 💕
On a more serious note, this was a fantastic reading experience. In a way, it made me imagine how it must feel losing my current partner and it fucking hurts. It hurts so much it made me feel... I don't know, more at peace with the idea of it? It gave me closure, you could say :')
If death (or any of the trigger warnings in it) as a theme doesn't trigger you, then yes, I do recommend it a lot!! 🌈😤👌
