Oh my GODS this book is amazing. The perfect sapphic story to read for pride month I am so glad I picked this one up. I laughed, I cried, I had an existential crisis. Poppy and Ash’s story is amazing to watch unfold, you feel every part of the journey with them. Well done Tanya Byrne, you should be very proud of this I commend you.

The best word I can use to describe this book is haunting, in both a literal and metaphorical sense. I found myself unable to put it down, and I felt so captivated by Poppy and Ash's story. I especially found the first part difficult to stop reading, the author beautifully weaves tragedy and romance together and it leaves you winded as you know exactly what's going to happen but you still desparately want them to have that happy ending. I also really enjoyed the whole concept of reaping, and how it happens although I somewhat wish some more time had been devoted to building that other world up, I recognise that this story wouldn't be what it was without that lampshade on Ash's emotional journey. I would highly recommend this.

I really enjoyed this book. I’m glad we got the backstory to Poppy and Ash’s relationship, but I would have liked more of the reaper plot line. I’m going to echo the sentiment that I think this would have been a better read if it was an adult novel and the characters were adults. Last note is thar the author talks about what shoes Ash is wearing way, way too many times, holy cow.

Thanks to Macmillan Books for the free advance copy of this book.

 - AFTERLOVE is, somehow, the Kill Your Gays book I didn't know I needed.
- Ash and Poppy's love story burns fast and bright, and knowing from the first page that Ash was going to die makes it both worse and better.
- I kind of wish this was an adult novel instead of YA so the world and logistics of the reaper system could have been rounded out more. However, the intensity of teenage feelings was perfect for this short and painfully sweet story.

This book left me aching. I never wanted it to end. I smiled through so much of it, and I cried real tears more than once. The writing is unique but not annoying, and the story is tragically beautiful. The only complaint I have is that I didn’t read it earlier.
