OMG! My heart T-T I heard about this from it being released on Netflix. The art is pretty and the storyline good so far. The vibes it gives me is Cinderella mash with Full Metal Alchemist. Just so much sadness so far, but I can't bawl at work right now. I am looking forward to how the anime will spin it.

As a fan of the Netflix adaptation, I was surprised to find the manga available through my library. Having watched the anime version twice now, the storyline and artwork seems to track very closely with the original material.

There's a pretty sizeable amount of emotional angst at play here. Miyo, the FMC, has deeply internalized the negative attitudes of her stepmother and half-sister. It's a Cinderella re-imagining so in the beginning there are flashbacks to Miyo working as a servant in her own household and the emotional and physical abuse she faces. By the time she arrives at the home of Lord Kudo, the MMC, her self-worth is absolutely non-existent. She's in a constant state of self-doubt, used to trying to please everyone (albeit unsuccessfully in her old home), and is a bit of a shell of a person. . I never quite understood the characterization of Lord Kudo as a needlessly cruel or demanding man - even if he did have a string of broken engagements. The second scene where the MCs are on page together is pretty awkward, with Kudo assuming Miyo is out to poison him with her cooking (lol whut!?). This is a true slow burn romantic thread, so Volume 1 focuses on establishing a background for the characters individually and then gradually moving into building an emotional connection between them.

Dare I say it's fluffy angst? I'm in the mood to devour this series.

Miyo has been sent to live with Kiyoka Kudo for as a potential bride. She has been horrible abused by her step family and ignored by her father. While Miyo and Kiyoka do not start off well, Kiyoka becomes aware of his mistakes and starts to have feelings for Miyo. There is some mystery to her mother's side of the family.

I tend not to like straight romance, so this wasn’t for me. I used to like romance shojo in high school but I prefer action/adventure w/ a side of romance now. It looks like there might be more supernatural adventure plot elements later in the series but it didn’t grab me enough to want to continue. Maybe I’ll revisit the series in the future when I want a break from complex stories.

cute as shit, and somehow even sadder than the show. miyo deserves $5 million and whatever the taisho era equivalent of a blunt is

i need miyo’s dad, stepmom and stepsister publicly tarred and feathered. miyo is such a sweetheart and she deserves unconditional love and respect from kiyoka. excited to see how their relationship develops. also predicting that miyo will end up having a supernatural ability after all. every hint they drop about her mom seems to lead to that.
