i REALLY wanted to love this book, but it just fell flat. the world building was no where near what it should have been, and i wasn’t invested in the world.
i don’t know why tallora and dauriel decided they were in love, they had no interactions of substance to make me believe them. i also disagree that this is a mermaid romance, she’s not a mermaid for the majority of the book. (i get it for plot reasons but i feel hoodwinked) the premise of the book is wonderful and it could have been great, but i didn’t believe any of what i was reading. :(

I couldn't get invested in the story or the politics. I liked Dauriel as a character but I never quite warmed up to Tallora, probably because I didn't like how the audio narrator did her voice.

Mermaid falls in love with her captor but I didn’t fall for the story…

There was potential here but there was a lack of build up in the romance and I almost DNF’d

This… just wasn’t for me. It felt very trauma heavy for no real reason. The character development was all over the place. Also, the love that forms between the characters felt very Stockholm syndrom-y. I am so sad because I wanted to like this book so much but I just … didn’t. 😕
