Wierd and confusing in the BEST possible way, the first volume of Prophet sets you on an intergalactic journey that you have almost no information about. A refreshing re-imagination of the original Jon Prohphet character, this reboot is bolstered by superb art (namely Brandon Graham) that is at the same time beautiful, detailed, disgusting, and sloppy, a true fit to the alien worlds explored within the pages of one of the most exciting things happening in comics today.

I originally picked up this series because a quick glance at the artwork reminded me of Star Wars. However, I found the storyline confusing and poorly developed. There is hardly any dialogue to push the story forward. It's written 90% in narrative and in present tense, like the Hunger Games, which can be awkward.

I didn't care for the main character at all. In fact, the reader doesn't get a chance to. He barely speaks, he's unattractive and when someone awesome happens (like losing an arm) he conveniently finds a new one. The plot seems very rushed and sort of made up on the spot. I would have enjoyed it more if we got to immerse ourselves in this world but nope. It's very touch and go.

There aren't any other characters to find solace with either. If anything, I enjoyed the bot towards the end who spoke in first person. Pretty sad when the only character you can relate to is A.I. I will not be picking up any future volumes of this series. I know I'm new to the world of comics but it's been the worst one I've read thus far.

Overall, storytelling wise, there was a lot of telling instead of showing (show don't tell- completely broken). I never thought I'd be able to say that about an art book. It took me over a week to read because I had to force myself to finish it. Very disappointed.

Pulpy, clever, but ultimately not my style. Will probably give #2 a try.

This is an interesting title to compare with Saga: while both feature both a ton of gore and alien creatures that are meant to be hideous, Saga manages to--and I think this is not just a matter of the art, although it starts there, but of the story as well--achieve a sense of sublimity, whereas Prophet is just gruesome.

I was super impressed with the interesting alien species in this first volume. The plot of identical clone copies of the protagonist, each with their own stories, reminded me of Aeon Flux.

If you're looking for an enjoyable, short run sci-fi story with beautiful art, this is for you.

While it's technically a continuation of an old Image series by [a:Rob Liefeld|93208|Rob Liefeld|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1210968791p2/93208.jpg], you don't have to read it to follow this story. Really, you shouldn't read the old series. For any reason.

Yes, you start off confused, as you follow the adventures of a barbarian like human who wakes up in the future, and follows his instincts in order to discover his purpose. But he's not the only John Prophet who has awoken.

There isn't a lot of dialogue in this book, it's mostly narration explaining the world as the various John Prophets experience it.

The art by [a:Simon Roy|4751905|Simon Roy|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], Brandon Graham, [a:Farel Dalrymple|255282|Farel Dalrymple|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1352242551p2/255282.jpg], and [a:Giannis Milonogiannis|4784204|Giannis Milonogiannis|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] are all stunning, and make this adventure so much cooler to read.

I recommend it to fans of Conan titles, sci-fi enthusiasts, and anyone who likes to watch an adventure story unfold in a world with unusual animals and humanoid species.

Wow. I've gotten use to the idea that everything I read from Image Comics is awesome. This clearly was not awesome. Actually it was rotten bad. Bad art. Ponderous stupid bad writing. Some interesting ideas primarily that show up on the art. Dumb worlds. Dumb aliens. Dumb names. Not worth reading, really not worth skimming.

This is a truly bizarre sci-fi trip, with an eerie vibe of being almost as plausible as it is weird.  The art has a lot going for it, but in some places it's too abstract for me to tell what's supposed to be happening.  And you definitely need to be in the right mood for something like this; it's a crazy nightmarish adventure without much in the way of dialog or character building.  But it is interesting and immersive.
