Great concept executed perfectly. "Haunted Legends" is an excellent collection of short stories inspired by local/regional/urban legends and interpreted by top horror / dark fantasy authors. It is really a great read. Good stuff. Top-notch.

I think this collection had a different bent than I hoped for. I tend to enjoy more investigative occult, and not too many of these fit that sub genre.

Not as scary as I had desired. It was me, not this collection.

As with most anthologies, this book is a mix of hits and misses in the genre of retelling urban legends and ghost stories. Probably about a third that are really awesome, a third that are good, and a third that are "meh." The particularly good ones were Catherynne Valente's Japanese-based offering, Kaaron Warren's ghost girl hitch-hiker, Carolyn Turgeon's take on the Woman in White, and Stephen Dedman's spin on reality shows mixed with spooks. One or two of the other tales... Eh, they were overly concerned with their own cleverness to the point of losing all sense of flow and narrative.

An amazing collection of authors writing short stories related to real life legends from around the world. Full of strong offerings, and not a clunker in the bunch! No truly terrifying or earth shaking material. Very solid, and a good creepy read.

I don't really know what I think of this book. I guess I had expected more thrill. There is too much emphasis on the HAUNTED in the title. While it weakens the actual theme LEGENDS. There comes the disappointment. The stories (re)tell legends which sometimes are about haunting.
After reading first three or four stories I had enough. Didn't I get the stories? Were they too short, too hurried and jerky?
But I finished the book and came across a couple of good ones, My favorites from this book: "That Girl", "Tin Cans", "LaLlorona", "Face Like a Monkey", "For those in Perli of the Sea" and "The Redfield Girls". My most favorite is "Following Double-Face Woman" which ironically is not about a haunting at all.
The least favorite ones I won't mention. Just read it yourselfs and enjoy!
