I loved the lead up to the moments that left me breathless. The Girl With All The Gifts was a great prelude to this, and the Epilogue ties them together amazingly. I’m enjoying this series and want more.

While M R Carey is very inventive and creative, reinventing many well-worn genres and tropes, one trope that he blatantly and unsophisticatedly wields is the Rain Man, super-autistic.
While the sequel to this book, The Girl With All the Gifts, was amazing in its structure and flow, this book had the rug pulled out from under it by this tired, ableist cliché. It is too widely used, unrealistic and at worst, downright offensive and dangerous.
I reluctantly put it on the Ableist Shelf.
