Wow, what a fantastic start to a new to me series! My attention was held from start to finish, and I have another excellent detective pairing to add to my list of must reads. I thought that Robert Hunter & Carlos Garcia worked well together, and I liked the lack of alpha male posturing from Hunter when he was partnered with new detective Garcia. Detective Hunter is the main character & I thought he was a fantastic character. This story is not for the faint of heart - it’s bloody, gory and gruesome. In my opinion, the gorier the better for this type of detective story, and it sounds like this series is exactly that! This story moves fast & there’s plenty of cliffhangers to keep you reading just one more chapter. While I guessed the killer, I found it took nothing from the story as I had no idea why they did what they did. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

Going back to where it all began, it's been a long long time since I read this and it was such a great reread as I remembered enough to notice clues Iissed the first time round but I also forgot enough that there was still surprising and tense moments
