This book is so tender and sad and infuriating, all at the same time. Set in a dystopian too-close-for-comfort future, it follows a family trying to survive progressive austerity and climate change, while also weaving in one of the best queer love plot lines I've read in a while. It's definitely harrowing, and often gruesome, but I personally loved it.

I'm really sad that this book didn't hold up quite like the premise suggested - it just needed some work. Also the narrators voice really grated for some reason

4.5. Very readable, reminded of a sort of inverse high rise.

Main character is great and wouldn’t be averse to hearing from her again but if a sequel doesn’t come there’s still a finality to it.
