I found this "Days of The Future Past" arc in bargain sales years ago, before the movie version. Even in those age, we already heard something about near future theme where Sentinels almost annihilate all mutants.

It was so cheap and in mint condition, so I didn't think long to buy it.

The art was as expected for 1980s Marvel's comic books. The basic idea was similar as in movie version.

The story is iconic, but it leaves a lot to the imagination. It's so brief that you are only given a glimpse into these characters and the repercussions of the story.

We discussed the novel version with author Alex Irvine over on Previously on X-Men: https://previously-on-x-men.libsyn.com/alex-irvine-is-a-bamf

So you’re telling me that Kitty was supposed to be the protagonist of Days of Future Past? And the movie not only replaced her with Logan but almost cut her out of the movie entirely??

Other than me being mad about that I will say I think Days of Future Past, while an important and widely revered X-Men comic, is honestly just average to me. I feel like they could’ve done a lot more than with the concept.

I kept forgetting to write this, so this is probably not as of an insightful review as it could have been.

This is my second X-Men experience brought on completely by the upcoming movie. I definitely liked it better than The Wolverine. It was shorter but it was a lot more action packed. I can see the great potential in an awesome X-Men movie storyline here. The whole excessive internal narrative was a little annoying, but it helped to give some background information that me as a new-ish X-Men reader wouldn't have known otherwise.

I know she's very popular but I did not know much about her, and I was glad to read about Kitty Pryde.
I mean, I did see the movie, so I knew the story but still, I really enjoyed the introduction to those more than famous characters.

I bought this graphic novel knowing one thing - the new X-Men movie is based off of it. I only own one other X-Men graphic novel, The Dark Phoenix Saga, which I bought because the events of X-Men The Last Stand was based on it. I also bought them in the right order as Days of Futures Past leads right on from DPS.

I said in my review of DPS that it was quite a difficult introduction to the X-Men graphic novel world and left quite a few questions - the first 'chapter' of this novel answers a few of them (Cyclops recaps the formation of the X-Men and the key events up to the point of Phoenix's death), and the format of this (a number of compilation of stories as opposed to one story arc) meant that a lot less were raised.

I knew very little about the storyline of Days of Future Past, and I'll admit to being a bit... surprised as to how short it was, but it was one hell of a story
Spoilernever thought I would see Wolverine die...the little I know is movie based but he seems to be near invincible and although he does get incredibly beaten up in the two volumes I read he still seemed to be one of the stronger team members
.

The thing I am finding most interesting is the difference between this, the comic book world of X-Men, and the movies as some of the character portrayals are quite different from the source material.

I kind of feel this volume would have been a better first introduction to the world of X-Men - but reading it in conjunction with DPS works very well.

I didn't like the issues that came with this compilation, as they didn't seem to have much to do with the Days of Future Past event. Was this what the X-Men comics were like back when? I don't really care for the art style, but I can look past that. I found the writing to be dull and overly expository.
