This was fantastic. Oyeyemi is so clearly talented, she can bend prose styles and narrative around her in ways that I hadn't seen before. This was a wonderful gothic, inheritance and love shown at their worst and most possessive. I've read a fair amount of modern gothics and I feel like authors either get the genre or they don't but this one GOT it.

Felt like I was reading a nightmare. For me, a bit too vague to being able to hold onto - I needed a clearer plot. I agree with other reviewers that having characters already affected by the horror from the beginning did not help the book feel like a contained story.

White is for Witching is a gothic fever dream that was a little hard to get into at first, but once you adjust to the authors writing style it’s impossible to put down. Seriously hung between different perspectives and timelines, the story slowly unravels revealing the malevolent sentience of the house. I went into this one with very little knowledge be I’m glad, because there isn’t much you can say without ruining the vibes of the story. If you’re into gothic literature and literary novels that are eerie and twisty, you’ll enjoy White is for Witching.
