Experimental literature, especially stream-of-consciousness stuff can be so hit or miss. For me it depends on whether I can let go enough to immerse myself in it and feel the flow. Sometimes I can and sometimes I can’t! I found this worked for me. For starters the voice was well developed and was quite funny at times. The style served to show the multiple layers of thought, at times breaking into three concurrent streams. I think it's the best artistic depiction of the way a traumatic event invades your thoughts that I’ve come across. I loved that nothing dramatic actually happens during the course of the novel, which takes place over a single day. It manages to show how the mundane continues and underneath the surface things are simmering away.

I feel like this book is best read in one sitting or at least a short time span. I shall save this one for a day in!

CW : sexual assault

This book was an experiment in writing, trying to capture one day of the thoughts that run into the head of woman who was raped by her boss. It is short, and that's probably a good thing, as it is also a pretty hard read - both stylistically and content-wise. While I do appreciate the attempt, I wasn't moved as much as one might expect.

A very unique and immersive book following the streams of consciousness of a woman after having experienced sexual violence.
I have never read a book written like this before, following every thought, action, reaction and analysis of the protagnists life over a 24hour period. It was a little hard to get to grips with at the beginning but once you're in you won't get out. The audio version (narrated by the author) is mind blowingly good.
Essentially a book demonstrating how traumatic memories can sporadically appear in our every day lives, written in the most chaotic yet delicate, ugly yet beautiful, satirical but oh so heartbreaking poise you could imagine.
