Wow! Great insight into the origin of Captain Phasma of the First Order. She is way more savage than the movies portray her. Cardinal is an equally interesting character and I really enjoyed the conflict in this.

I liked the beginning but the burn was a bit too slow for my tastes

Great Star Wars book. Delilah S. Dawson is one of my new favorite authors and was really hyped to read about Captain Phasma. As I've read in other's reviews the supporting characters seem to shine more than Phasma but once I'd finished the book I realised that that is just who Phasma is as a character, she's brutal, detatched and single minded and I hope she gets more screen time in The Last Jedi too as a side note.
Phasma is a great read.

Where do I even start? I am an avid Star Wars canon fan, and this was an amazing addition to the universe! Delilah did an amazing job capturing Phasma's history and revealing to us all how she became the bada** captain she is today. I only wish we knew what happened to Vi and Cardinal!

In The Force Awakens, Captain Phasma carried on a Star Wars tradition of being a cool looking character that did nothing. I didn't really have high hopes for this novel because of that, but Delilah S. Dawson told an interesting and unique story that justified some of Phasma's hype. Hopefully it is a sign of better things to come for the character in The Last Jedi.

When Star Wars Met Mad Max!
I'm a massive Star Wars fan and have dipped in and out of the new Canon Novels with mixed reaction, But WOW just WOW Phasma absolutely blew me away.
Having watched the Force Awakens I was really disappointed with how underused Phasma was, especially given that An Actress of the Prowess of Gwendoline Christie was under that Chrome Armour. She was to me Just a Throw away character so when the Novel was announced and released I wasn't that bothered, but hey its Star Wars so I bought it anyway. And to say I was Surprised would be an understatement. I'm not going to go into the plot of the novel in this review, I hate Spoilers.
The Format of the Book, with the main action being told in flashback, really works here and it takes on almost a short story feel but with an episodic chronological timeline.
The Books adds so many layers to not just the Title Character but to the First Order in general. We are introduced to fascinating new Character in Cardinal from whom I'm sure we have not heard the last.
Some of the Scenes in the Desert of Parnasus where very evocative of Post Apocalyptic works like Mad Max and even The Road and add a really excellent new Dimension to the Galaxy Far Far Away. Also I believe that this is the First Star Wars Novel to include bad language (Not Too Bad mind, Bastard and Pissing appear once each) and Even to touch on Sexual attraction (FAR FROM GRATUITOUS or EXPLICIT) as opposed to nice safe love. So it may not be for everyone.(I've a 15 year old Daughter and I've no problem with her reading it) Its handled in such a way that younger readers wouldn't even spot it anyway.
All in All its certainly in the top 3 of the New Canon Star Wars Novels in my opinion along with the Utterly Brilliant Lost Stars and Dark Lords of the Sith
