Next audio book in the series - love the character, story line, and narrator enough that I didn't mind that the book seemed to be a lot longer than was really needed. However, it kept me from going straight to the next book in the series because it's even longer.

7.9/10 Very good Penn Cage novel. As with the other Penn Cage books, i enjoy that Natchez is the setting. Because of familiarity with the area and Greg Iles writing style being easy to follow, these books move quick. This story has a quick hook and lots of intrigue and suspense. I highly recommend!

In general, a fairly interesting story about drug dealers and related killers. I had two main complaints - it needs an editor, and a strong scrub with bleach.

It is too long - there is about 100 pages of a bizarre kidnapping that serves to keep a main character conveniently out of the action. He could have just been in a car wreck, in a coma, hit in the head and been out of commission without this strange waste of ink. After the character McGuyver's his way out of this unnecessary jam, the story concludes via the convenient confession of the real killer.

The initial killing turns out to be a teenager who is having an affair with a prominent citizen. Icky enough, but then the author spends pages and pages in a soft pr0n description of their (underage) encounters. Then another teenager hits on the main character. Gross, just gross. I needed brain bleach after that section of inappropriate nastiness. Write erotica if you want, just don't try to pass it off as a thriller.

4 stars for the main story, minus 2 for the nastiness, I'll round it off to a 3.
