Un tour de force, un livre qui s’attaque au corps comme à la tête par une écriture exigeante, mais néanmoins accueillante, rendue limpide par son intransigeance. Comme la mythologie féministe que j’ai toujours voulu avoir.

The synopsis and premise were far more interesting to me than the execution of the thing. A collection of prose-poems, the book felt like someone took a proper novel, removed much of the of the plot and left only the distillation of the ideas. I think I wanted something a little more substantial and concrete and less...artistic.

I mean, *spoiler alert* - did I really just read a experimental prose poem in which this faerie/sprite/witch eats out her grandma? I think I did. I was quite enjoying this for the first half too. I can handle weird if I’m in the right mood and some of the language was beautiful. But honestly the word ‘mongoloid’ must feature about 20 times in this book and I did not like that. And come on, granny oral? No thanks.

As visceral and gripping as this book was, what really got under my skin about this book was the tender and intimate and daring translation: as I read, i couldn't stop imagining what the source text might have been, what it would have been to translate this ephemeral text, this genreless text, this text of blurred lines of many faces, of a heart and mind spilled open messily across time. A truly remarkable feeling, to read and to be so distinctly aware that not one, but two people are presenting this work to you, each having torn themselves up in their own way to get it just so, just right, for you.

Not really for me. I picked it up at my library as it was being featured in their Prose section. In all fairness, the writing is quite pretty in places, but it got a bit weird at the end.
