It's been a few years since I've read this book, but I do remember being slightly disturbed when I finished it. Overall, it made me angry. I was angry at Blanche for being such a passive little mouse, at Christa for being a rude and senseless intruder, and at Blanche's parents for replacing their own daughter just because they failed to give her more confidence.
I think I liked it back when I read it, but I certainly won't read it again. It just reminds me too much of being exploited by my own "ex-"friends.

Mal wieder ein Highlight. Was für Figuren diese Frau erfindet und wie sie diese in wenigen Worten so lebendig werden lässt, wie manche es nicht in 500 Seiten schaffen! Ich bin begeistert, auch von dieser Geschichte und ich glaube, das ich mich noch lange daran erinnern werde. Und das ist die Kunst, die diese Autorin für mich beherrscht: In knapp 140 Seiten schafft sie es, mir ein Geschehen und die Charaktere so nahe zu bringen, dass es sich anfühlt, als würde ich sie tatsächlich kennen. Nein, als hätte ich mit ihnen zusammengelebt! Wahnsinn. Das schafft kein anderer Autor, den ich bisher gelesen habe. Nicht auf so wenigen Seiten. (: Empfehlenswert - aber man wird sich über diese Menschen in der Geschichte definitiv grün und blau ärgern und an deren Verstand zweifeln. Sie sind einfach zu echt, um drüber hinwegzusehen. :D

Questo libro mi ha lasciata di stucco, pur nella sua semplicità.
Chiaro, lineare e fulminante, il libro segue la storia di Blanche e della sua amicizia/ossessione verso Christa, che si trasforma fin da subito in completa sottomissione.
La prosa asciutta di Nothomb rende questa storia ancora più grottesca, specialmente nel raccontare i meccanismi psicologici che l'avvento di Christa genera nei genitori di Blanche.
In queste 100 pagine scarse si osserva la crescita del personaggio di Blanche: riuscirà ad affrontare la sua nemica e imporsi su di lei?
Continuo ad apprezzare Nothomb, aggiungendo anche questa piccola perla alla lista dei libri letti.

Merveilleuse écriture, il y a de réelles perles littéraires dans ce livre.
Les thèmes sont la précocité intellectuelle, la difficulté d'être un enfant "différent", l'isolation sociale, la vie universitaire, la manipulation psychologique, les meilleures pseudo-amitiés, les changements corporels inégaux de la puberté, l'homosexualité cachée et le pouvoir de la littérature.
Puis, il y a David Bowie :-D
