On a bit of a Tolkien kick lately. My grandmother gave this book to me in 1999, but i didn't appreciate it until now. You might not enjoy it if 1) you haven't read Lord of the Rings 2) you haven't read The Silmarillion, and 3) even after finishing those you weren't left with a thirst for more of Tolkien's tales of Arda.

There's no narrative structure to this one-it's simply a collection of stories arranged by the ages (first, second, or third) that they occurred in. Much of this book is Christopher Tolkien's explanations, through an editor's "voice" denoted by a different font, of how these tales have evolved and do or don't agree with what is published elsewhere.

Overall though, I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for more Middle-Earth.

I enjoyed getting a better glimpse at smaller stories within the world of Middle-Earth

My favorite quote:

"How shall I harbour one who scorns me and my law, or pardon one who will not repent?"
