This is a sweet fairytale with just the right amount of goodness and joy. It’s written for children but can be enjoyed at any age! I loved it and will read it again.

Sweet, funny story. Useful to remember that the "goblins" are most likely dwarves rather than what we usually imagine when we think of goblins. This was written before J R R Tolkien made the probably first distinctions in his writings.
I was hoping for a reveal of who the "grandmama" was at the end...but we are still left hanging with the mysterious fairy who is only visible to those to whom she chooses to reveal herself to.
There are religious motifs and themes in this story that are really interesting; it was a good introduction to George MacDonald and I have moved on to another of his stories now.

Was surprised at how much the kids loved this one. I enjoyed the imagination and the beauty of it.
