well i guess if there's one thing to be glad about it's that i don't have to wait several months to read the next book - because that is one hell of a cliffhanger. and wow these books really are getting better as they go along??? still not my fave series ever but i can appreciate the character dynamics a lot more as the novels progress. this review is basically useless sry

Wow. That's what I was thinking when I finished the 3rd installment of the caster chronicles. Unlike the 2 before, this one deserves it's 5 stars, both for the feeling of anticipation beautifully constructed throughout the beginning and for the dramatic end. Lovely.

By far the Beautiful Chaos plot was the most complex of all the Caster Chronicles. The story start off the fall after Lena's 17 moon. As the story goes forth we see all the negative consequences from the two prior books. Ethan's death and re birth and Lena's claiming of light and darkness were two of the most important themes of this book. I know that all of the chronicles are from Ethan point of view, but this book in particular was really Ethan's story. After this book Ethan is no longer just supporter to the castor and the supernaturals in his life. Ethan becomes the master of his own fate.

I had a hard time figuring out how many stars I wanted to give this book But I went with 5 and not 4 and half because overall the book was great. However, I do feel that the first half of the book moved at much faster pace than the second half of the book. Moreover, there is a huge cliff hanger at the end of Beautiful Chaos. In the other books the story did come to a nice clean end. Also I really like the fact that this book was more focus of Ethan and his family. But the real reason that I gave the book five star is because there are so many little things I love by the Beautiful Chaos. The fact that there was a huge cliff hanger did not deter my rating of 5 stars.

Things I loved by Beautiful Chaos!

1. The town of Gatlin (I love the cast of characters of the town)
2. The new Link
3. The new and old Ridley
4. All things Amma
5. Amma bottle tree
6. Macon's new powers

I love this book! I assume there must be another one coming - the end certainly suggests there will be - and when it's out I'll definitely read it. I love the world created by the 2 authors, and the characters. It's amazing how the eccentric, humorous characters can populate a world of darkness, and yet it all fits together so well. It's one of those books you want to read really slowly so that it lasts, but which you never can because it's impossible to put down.

More like a 3.5
Okay, let me start off with saying that I get why people love this book so much. But, for me, I just liked it. No more than that. I had a really hard time connecting with the characters. I felt really removed from the story.
I felt like the first 200 pages were boring, and that the plot didn't come until about page 400. This book definitely should have been shorter.
Now, don't get me wrong, I still really enjoy this series, it's just not as good as the other books. The ending almost made me give it another star, because I cried for the first time in the book, but then when I pondered it a bit more I gave it a 3.5
