Reading this after watching Master of None was interesting because I was able to see how a lot of what is mentioned in this book was put into the show.

Not awful & the sociology seems sound, but this book made me realize that 80% of Ansari's humour is based around "xyz scenario? How crazy is that?!" with no real further insight. This may work in stand up, but the book was little more than mildly amusing. So if you're not reading this book for the comedy, would you turn to it for the sociology? While there has been significant research & work put into the book, I would still say that the information within is nothing that you couldn't find without a Google search.

However I do hope that this can set a precedent for stand up comedians first books be something more creative than a memoir.

Laugh out loud funny and really interesting - I loved the surprising depth of the research as well as the thoughtful approach to technology and romance.

Scads of facts tempered by humor, images, and anecdotes from interviews and personal experiences.

In some ways I loved this book. There was a lot I didn't like about it as well. I liked that he used research and talked about the dating follies of our modern society. He gave the pros and cons of social media in our dating world. We are lucky to have a range of ways to connect with people and meet people but it also makes us less likely to commit and less likely to remain faithful. I could have skipped the chapters about Japan, sexting, and open relationships though.

I really enjoyed it. If you are a statistics geek and love reading social science studies (I totally do), then you will get the most out of it. It also contains plenty of his humor which is great and adds breaks between the hard data.

A thorough investigation of modern-day love, and anecdotal stories about the ways we find love today and in generations past.

Fascinating! This was a social science book much more than anything else. Really well done and so much more readable than your typical dry nonfiction choice!

I want more nonfiction written by comedians, please!!!

Aziz Ansari teamed up with a sociologist to research and write this analysis of dating in our modern digital age and whether we really have it better or worse than those who coupled up before us. I HIGHLY recommend it to EVERYONE, single or not. I found it about 70% encouraging/validating and 30% depressing.
