I liked that there wasnât a 3rd act breakup - there wasnât a lot to really sell Wrenâs and Lincolnâs love for each other, as family drama took up most of the story, but they had a solid relationship. Thatâs where the positive ends. Everything else in the book was problematic. Armstrong getting away with everything, keeping his job, especially in the age of #metoo is unfathomable. Lincoln, the more emotionally healthy of the two brothers, knows of no other way to deal with Armstrong than violence, while at the same time admitting that Armstrong is the way he is because he was raised by their psycho mother. Every woman in the book was neatly put into either the âgood girlâ or âslutâ column, and accusations of being a gold digger was flung at at least three women. So many cringe-worthy tropes.Â
Graphic: Sexism, Sexual content, and Toxic relationship
Moderate: Death of parent, Infidelity, and Violence
Minor: Sexual harassment
