It had been a while since I’d read the first one so initially I was very confused by all the characters and plot, but didn’t take long to get into it.
Was quite slow at the start but sped up near the middle and then I couldn’t put it down.

This was a solid read but it did suffer from middle book syndrome. I enjoyed the second half of the book a lot better than the first, once the plot had gotten going and more characters had been introduced.
I’m really excited to read Gods and Monsters to see how it ends! I have a feeling I’ll love it like I did Serpent and Dove.

This book felt like a completely different series from Serpent & Dove. The characters were all over the place and lost everything that made them endearing in book 1. There was intermittent lip service to the idea of their personality changes being attributable to trauma, but it was so inexpertly handled that it just rang hollow. The book was just a long plod that felt like a whole lot of nothing, and more nothing, and more nothing, all leading up to one absurdly brief moment of plot development. Honestly, Claud, Ansel, and (much to my chagrin) Beau were the stand out bright spots in an otherwise bland book. I’ll probably read book 3, but even with the “cliff hanger” ending I’m not on the edge of my seat and my expectations are very low.

Everyone had talked about not liking this book as much as the first but that was not my experience at all. Albeit moved slower at first it built the characters up more. I still love coco the most of anyone in the book and I hope we get so much more of her in the next. Her aunt however is legit the worst human omg.
