*I received a free copy of The Boyfriend Project. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review which is honest and unbiased.*

The Boyfriend Project is one of the most heartfelt, real, most adorable romances I have ever read! I identified so much with Samiah. I’m not in STEM, and I don’t have to think about every little thing I do because of the other women trying to climb up behind me. However, she was just so incredibly real to me.
And Daniel *sighs* he was such a fantastic hero! He had to fight with his own conscience so many times - and his work just had to come first. It was completely heart wrenching to read his inner thoughts as he fell for Samiah all the while not being able to be fully honest with her!

I chose to listen to this through Libro and found it lighthearted and enjoyable! Admittedly at times I felt like the pacing could’ve been slightly better but contemporaries usually take me a bit to finish.

This book truly has just about everything you can want; comedy, friendship and a believable romance. The narrator did a great job bringing these characters to life. I’m giving it a solid 3/5 star rating and suggest you pick it up!

I loved The Boyfriend Project! Samiah has just learned (via Twitter) that her boyfriend is simultaneously dating two other women. When they confront him - the three women end up leaving together and a new friendship is born. Unfortunately - someone also recorded the showdown and now it’s gone viral. The three new friends vow no dating for 6 months as they each focus on something for themselves. Samiah is planning to spend the time on a new app for finding friends.

The next day Samiah meets Daniel - her new coworker and she immediately feels sparks. However Daniel may not be exactly who he seems to be.

I loved this book so much. I often feel like jobs are glossed over in romance novels - just something vaguely mentioned. In this case, I felt like Samiah and Daniel both cared deeply about their careers. The conflict in their relationship felt real and I loved how they handled the resolution.

At multiple points through the story - they model great communication and support of each other. I love seeing this! I also appreciated the glimpse of a Black woman in the tech industry - showing the challenges Samiah faces on a daily basis at work.

I am so excited to read more from Farrah Rochon and can’t wait for the rest of this series! Thank you to Forever, Netgalley and Librofm for the advance reading and listening copies.

I intended to give this book 4 stars because I loved how layered it was (Samiah's job, her girlfriends, her sister and of course her relationship with Daniel). But then I got to the final 5 or so chapters and it felt like the author was in a rush to tie up the lose ends and finish the book and so the ending comes across as rather weak.

Update: I'm downgrading my rating because the more I think about it, the more I realize how selfish Daniel was. Samiah's job was the one thing that she didn't want to fuck up. She told him time and again that people weren't as gracious to black women as they were to their white counterparts. And what does this man do? Jeopardize her job with no contingency plan other than "I let your bosses know you had nothing to do with this". What a load of crap! I'm not even going to get into the supposed grand romantic gesture/apology. Like I stated earlier, the final chapters came across as lazy writing.

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon is the perfect sweet, steamy, romantic read you need in your life right now. And my favorite part is that it stands for so much more than the love story- it stands for empowering people of color, it stands for empowering women in the tech industry, it stands for empowering anyone to stay driven towards your dreams, and it stands for the power of friendship. YOU NEED ITTTTT. READ ITTTTT.
