"Project Management Fan Fiction" is how I would describe this book. It's full of science fiction and fantasy references that fall squarely into my guilty pleasures, but at its core this book is light on plot and character development. The women characters are decidedly two-dimensional, and the book does not pass the bechdel test. And, it's predictable. This book is already telegraphing big plot points for the next couple of books.

That said, I really enjoy the project management aspects of this book, and the references will at times make me laugh out loud. It's unlike anything else I'm aware of.

So, I'm going to call this a problematic fave and occasionally listen to this series as audiobooks at 2x speed as I am driving cross country. I wouldn't go as far as recommending this in general, but for somebody who has very specific tastes in science fiction and humor, I would volunteer this series with several caveats.
