More fun with Dick and Shane is much in the vein of Fun with Dick and Shane. It's a continuing collection of blog posts by Gill, the submissive third in a three way relationship with two dominant men. I could be wrong but I believe these were written and posted in real time. As such they lack a coherent narrative, which can be refreshing at times. It feels like peeking into the lives of these people. But at times it's frustrating as we want more details and the book doesn't give it to us. There are also a few jokes that are, at this point, heavily belaboured and I can do without (I automatically skip any paragraph that starts with "I hate fucking..."). But then there are some genuinely touching little moments that make you want to engage with it and there is character growth that's quite charming. I really like the way it shows an alterantive queer lifestyle (ie one that isn't polite and as close to heterosexual as possible) without judgement. There were a few assides that made me wish the book hadn't picked up just so much of the hatred of women and transphobia that are often a part of gay male culture (the joke about Gill's friend not wanting to go to a gay bar because he wouldn't be able to pre-vet the genitals of the person he was picking up was particularly cringe-worthy.)

I really enjoyed the first one and I think some of that was the novelty of it. But this one, the novelty's starting to wear thin. Maybe reading it as blog posts where you're not looking for a narrative arc would make it a better read. I seem to remember that the events towards the end of the first book put more of a bow on it while this one kind of petered out. Still, I'll come back to the series. I'm interested to see how it expands.

I'll write a real review tomorrow. Maybe. I don't really know how to write about these book.
But I loved it, more Sen then my first read. I love Gilli and Dick. And I appreciate Shane much more this time around!

This book deserves to be read for the figging episode alone. There are some laugh-out-loud funny moments in here and it's a fast easy read. A couple of the repeated bits wear a little thin and Gilli is still bratty, insecure and prone to dwelling on the negatives. But I really enjoyed this and will read the next one whenever it comes out. I do hope his relationship moves forward a bit more. There was not a lot of change from the first book here, and I think this menage will only become more interesting when it matures.
