**SMALL SPOILERS, TECHNICALLY**

This book gives you three more children of the Big Three characters and watching Percy, who's slowly growing up, have to interact with them is amazing to see.

It parallels with The House Of Hades concerning Percy and Annabeth's relationship, and to me, this is the beginning of Percy maturing and taking on his role as the Son of Poseidon more. He's still as funny as ever but things are a little more tense, a little more serious starting in this book, which I can appreciate.

SPOILERS BELOW

This book made me cry several times. This is my second time reading so I knew what would happen (and who would die, and the reactions to it) but it still made my heart ache. The whole mission is a desperate whirlwind, with Percy trying to save Annabeth, Zoe and Bianca trying to save Artemis, Grover trying to find Pan, and Thalia trying to resist going dark. It's mentioned many times how young they all are, too, which just makes it worse. Poor Nico loses so much, and Chiron says something like "He's so young... better to be eaten by monsters than recruited to Kronos' cause." I think the metaphor of the sky on the shoulders of Luke, Annabeth, and then Percy really represents what's coming for them, and it's sad.

The inclusion of so many gods ramps up the tension too, I think. We've seen Ares, Dionysus, Hermes, Poseidon, and Zeus before, but Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, etc really made it seem to me that everything is converging. Time is running out. They have two years before everything goes to shit. It feels very real, how little time they have left.

Plus, the Percabeth? So cute.
