I finally finished this one... But I don't know how... There was way to much sexual descriptions that were unnecessary... so much so the I think it says what the author thinks about when she's not writing. It was also way too obvious who the killer was and who the author wanted us to think the killer was... I'm glad I'm finally done!

I liked this story. The reason that I only gave it three stars was strictly some of the language in the book. Sometimes it just got to be a bit much. It wasn't super bad. I guess it just struck me the wrong way. Might have been my frame of mind. It is an very good suspense story and I am glad that I read it.

I really wanted to like this book. My little local library has a ton of Jacksons, and I was hoping I'd enjoy this enough to go delving into her backlist. Sadly, it disappointed. Overall, it felt like there were too many threads for the story Jackson was trying to weave, and many were left loose. Many more didn't seem to make any sense in terms if the rest of the story, and there were plot points relating to the main story, conversations the main characters really needed to have which were just...ignored. Additionally, Jackson writes in her author's note that the story was meant to be about a culprit who only killed in the winter, which REALLY didn't cone across. Though the reader is constantly aware of how cold it is in their Oregon town, since every single bloody character saw fit to bitch about it.

My verdict is basically that I wished I'd heeded the other reviews and read a different book instead.

I thought this was a solid piece of suspense writing, despite being a little slow in spots. The focus is on Jenna Hughes, a successful Hollywood actress who gave it all up after a professional and personal tragedy, and her two daughters. Someone is stalking her, but in a very round-about way. Not only is there a good cast of characters, from the Sheriff to the overprotective neighbor to the best friend, but the weather itself is a character. The cold and the weather get in the way at every turn.

I think some of the parts where you’re in the killer’s head could have been cut back a bit — it got repetitive. But other than that, I don’t have many complaints. A little more romance would have made it perfect. Eventually, the romantic connection is made, but there’s not enough room left in the book for it to breathe.

This is my second Lisa Jackson novel. Unfortunately, I wasn't interested enough to continue beyond page sixty. This just isn't my kind of mystery.

I read this book while at the cottage, it's really not my genre and I just read it because it was there and I knew I could read it quickly.
But oh man! The concept is cool, but the writing is so bad.
My favourite line (paraphrasing because it's been a while): She was a stout woman named Billie Jo Stephens. She had three men's names, but she didn't seem to mind.
Anyways, it was bad, but so bad it was good.
