“I don’t want to go to prison now I’m finally free.”
👆🏽That’s basically the quote that sums up the whole book to be honest. I had overwhelming anxiety from the very first chapter because you know from the jump that Sally killed her husband and you don’t know what’s gonna happen after that. Did he deserve it? Absolutely TF yes. Does she deserve to go to prison? Absolutely TF not. But, that’s not always how things work so ya gotta let it play out.
I absolutely loved the themes of sisterhood, courage and empowerment in this book.
The only thing that I wish is that it would’ve came out DURING the pandemic. I only say that because I feel like I would’ve been more immersed in the story if I could’ve felt the same sense of confinement as them. I definitely remember the feeling, but it’s different now and fleeting so if I had read it then it definitely would’ve had a deeper impact.

It managed to be both a dark comedy and a harrowing story of domestic violence during lockdown and what survivors go through.
The characters are well developed and multifaceted, and so, so strong! The strength, love, and friendship these women give each other feels so genuine and heart warming.
The writing is absolutely beautiful, both hilarious, gut wrenching, tense and thrilling when it needed to be. The author remained sensitive to the various cultures she portrayed outside her own lived experience and sensitive to the topic of DV.
