Sophie, the protagonist's best friend and spirit guide, died as a teenager. Other ghosts are abundantly present in the book in various bodily states. There is a ghost child. The protagonist deals with a lot of loneliness and sense of tragedy which seems to overarch most things, but the narrative voice is like a friend retelling to you and it's silly.

My first vaguely cosy mystery so nothing to measure against, but it was a lovely change from my usual more serious reads. An enjoyable few hours. Grateful for the family tree in the opening pages as otherwise I'd have needed to draw one myself. Lots of characters but not all made distinctive enough for me to remember. Not as much of a twist ending as I'd hoped for.
