This third volume of Monster was not as great as its predecessor. This was mainly because the plot was not as great here. The story is still creepy but a bit more predictable than before. It barely makes any progression in this volume, and it was not always clear what was happening. I’m also not a fan of the demonisation of the “split personality” and Johann’s intentions are still not clear and some of the stuff he does is a bit unrealistic.
At least the characters are still as great as before. All of them have such great and partly dramatic backstories and their emotions are portrayed so well. There are so many characters I love, like Dieter, Nina or Temna. Runge is also such a great character, he’s so intimidating and kind of creepy? I’m pretty sure that he’s losing his mind at this point. The only character I really hate is Eva and I wish she had some other motivations than getting back with Temna. Sadly, the cast is still very male as well. Nevertheless, I’m still very interested in the series.
