This book's main character, Sebastian Dorner is a widower struggling to raise his four-year-old son Matty. Sebastian's wife and Matty's mom, Cora died at the hands of a drunk driver. Matty's teacher Miss Derosa is worried that he is being neglected by Sebastian. She gently pries and confronts Sebastian ready to help in any possible way. Miss Derosa writes instructions on taking care of Matty for Sebastian. The instructions seem to help Sebastian adjust to the single parent quite nicely.
Via Derosa was forced into foster care at age twelve. In her twenties, Via has formed a decently comfortable life for herself. She still feels that a key component is still missing, the family she's been longing for. Will Via and Sebastian find their missing piece when and where they least expect it?
Overall, Cara Bastone did it again. Her books always leave me with warm, fuzzy feelings and a smile. I am pleased to say that this book is no different. I am excited to continue the series This book is more graphic than her other books.

Well this was wholesome and lovely. I loved the characters, the communication, the emotions, and the dog. Just feel good romance whilst still having deeper trauma experienced.

Cara Bastone is a new to me author and I'm SO glad I picked up this book. Seb and Via are incredible people with moving stories and I loved every part their journey. And you can't forget little Matty, he was a ray of sunshine. Everytime he said "Knuckles, Daddy" I know I was grinning like an absolute idiot because it was so dang cute.
One of my favorite parts of this story was how the subject of grief was handled. Both Seb and Via lost people they loved and were open and honest about their grief. Grief changes you as a person but it doesn't have to ruin you and I think Bastone did a wonderful job getting this across through her writing.
The romance in this is the slowest of slow burns but it worked. It gave Seb and Via time to know one another, their chemistry and tension builds throughout, and because of that the relationship makes sense and is extremely believable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be picking up more of Brstone's books in the future!

It did conclude with two things frustratingly unresolved: discussions around Via's "blue aura" and whatever is going on in Sebastian's upstairs (literally - there's a couple of references to him showing Via something important and to the fact that she's never been upstairs).
