This book would have been 4-5 stars if there was no god-plotline. It was weird and extraneous and only served to detract from the very moving actual story.

this follows the stories of two couples during world war i, as retold by aphrodite thirty years later. as she tells their stories, she seeks to understand why love and war are drawn to one another.

i’ve read a lot of greek mythology-based/inspired stories, but this one was different than the others. i liked how reflective it was. this was nothing like what i expected yet i still really enjoyed it.

I thought this book was actually pretty solid. The pacing was a bit odd for me, but that is personal preference and I think it could have been chopped up a bit less, but overall it is an interesting tale.

Such a brilliant war-time love story told by Greek gods. I loved every second. It’s a great YA for older readers.
