This took me awhile to finish… I kept putting it down cause it just wasn’t holding my attention as the first book did. I feel like a lot happened in this book but at the same time nothing really happened…. I will be reading the next book cause the ending tho..

Waffling heavily between three and four stars. I deeply enjoyed this but I think part of it was that I’d set my expectations correctly—it’s not as great as Serpent and Dove, but it does have the same amazing page turning tension. I did love getting to spend more time with Lou and Reid. There were some great twists in here!
BUT! I would agree with many others, it does feel a bit like a filler book... 500 pages in, I feel like we made no real progress towards resolving the main plot points of the series. That’s a bit disappointing. And that ending just about killed me. WHY? Why did you do that?
There’s a fine line between keeping a reader on their toes and having them walk away in frustration. This book balances right on the line.
That said, I cannot WAIT for the third installment! I hope it ties up every loose end!
