Significant glorification of mental illness, high school stereotypes, and suicide. Romanticized it wayyyyy too much, which I found abhorrent and unpleasant. I forced myself to finish it but wouldn't recommend to others.

I loved this book. From the beginning, the characters were lovable and easy to understand. Despite being very different people, Violet and Finch connected. The connection was not immediate. The ending of the book was devastating but made sense. The world is not all flowers and rainbows.

At first, I was of the opinion that the book was a bit too ‘young’ adult for me, having little depth and describing teenage drama, but then the book took a more serious turn and I became way more invested in what would happen to the characters.

“We do not remember days, we remember moments."

I really do not know how to feel about this book. This book was heavy. Coming off of The Fault in Our Stars, I think this book is very similar, but there are a few differences that made me not enjoy this book as much as The Fault in Our Stars. I didn't like the writing style as much. Some lines felt very outdated. I didn't really like the characters as much, either. Their relationship felt a bit insta-lovey to me as well, like in The Fault in Our Stars. There were a few moments I liked, but there were also several that I disliked. The discussions around sensitive topics are ones that should be talked about, and destigmatized, yet, I feel as if there are better books out there for that.

This gave me Perks of Being a Wallflowe vibes. A raw exploration of the impact of grief.   Also a difficult look at how  bi-polar/manic-depression can be overwhelming,  especially when not undersood by the person experiencing it or the people in their life.

Important message by the end: reach out. Talk. Speak  up!
