Rowan is my moon and stars. Aelin is a genius. I want Dorian biblically and a threesome with Manon let’s be honest.

If anyone is questioning whether or not to do the TOG tandem read….DO IT. It was such a fun and unique reading experience and I would 100% do it again if I reread the series. Everything flowed so well going back and forth between the two books and now, instead of being left on a cliffhanger I can pick up KOA with even more excitement!!!

I did the tandem read with this novel, and that made me so much more invested in this series than previous books did. Shit really hit the fan in this book, and *phew* I don't think I'll emotionally recover from it. There will be spoilers in this review, so be warned.

For starters:
1. FUCK DARROW AND ISKRA. Iskra is such a bitch. Like I get it. That's how Ironteeth are, but still fuck her. As for Darrow, get off your fucking high horse. Aelin has done more for Erilea in the last month than you have for the last ten damn years. Let her be queen. THINGS COULD HAVE GONE A LOT SMOOTHER IF YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN OVER YOURSELF. DICK.

2. I will die for Manon & Abraxos. Need I say more?

3. Same for Aedion. If anything happens to him, Manon, or Abraxos, SJM will be receiving my therapy bills.

4. If Aedion and Lysandra don't get a HPE, I'll riot. The two of them have been through so much shit together it has literally made my heart hurt. I really hope they can repair their relationship after that meltdown on the beach. I hope Aedion has time to see Lysandra has made the biggest sacrifice out of anyone for a country that she's never been to. SHE IS LITERALLY GIVING UP HER LIFE TO BE AELIN. UGH.

5. Fenrys. I love him. I love his snark. I. Love. Him. *send tweet*

6. Lorcan x Elide FOREVER. I totally saw Elide working through his cold, brooding, tough guy exterior. Was I annoyed that he got cockblocked by invading ilken? FUCK YES I WAS. UGH, Don't do that to me, SJM!!!

7. Speaking of spice...this book was so horny. Do not mistake that for a complaint. I thought this was YA, and boy was I SO HAPPY to see that she snuck in some spice. But like, seriously, the tension from QoS finally delivered here. Aelin and Rowan in Skulls Bay...

What. Just. Happened?!?! Though no one came looking for her in the past ten years, Aelin has to prove herself to Darrow and the fellow lords so she can be Queen?!?! Ugh! Freaking men and their power trips. Well, if anything bad happens to her, they will be to blame. She goes out to find alliances and armies all while searching for wyrdkeys and battling ilkens while they sit in their pretty homes talking trash. Then Aunt Marve arrives. Crap. People are gonna burn for this. I just need some wine and popcorn while it all unfolds.

4.5 ⭐️ on re-read. 4.5 ⭐️ On this re-read I did the tandem read with Tower of Dawn. I really enjoyed it, but wouldn’t suggest it as a first read through. Empire of Storms is very action packed, which makes Tower of Dawn look slower in comparison, but it isn’t boring, in my opinion. There’s at least 7 points of view in EoS, and by tandem reading you’re adding 3 more to the mix, and it’s a little cumbersome constantly checking the chapter list. But as a re-read I really enjoyed seeing the time line run simultaneously, and on my first read ToD made me really miss the characters from EoS so I liked not losing touch of everyone’s storylines going into Kingdom of Ash.

4 ⭐️ More politics and world-building in this one, in a good way, but does mean it’s a bit of a slower read for comprehension and piecing things together. It’s well-paced overall and still a fun read that leaves me wanting to read the next one immediately :)
