dark sad medium-paced
A really cool concept- the coming-of-age story of a queer, deaf daughter of an Irish selkie.  There's minimal dialogue but lots of huge emotions and lush imagery. Ultimately this was too sad of a read for me. Everything you don't want to see happen to a baby lesbian happens. I was expecting more of a fantasy, but the mythological elements were mostly a backdrop for tragedy and teen who's-dating-who drama. I loved the passages about Fionnuala's fondness for animals.
