Great book. But it doesn't actually have an ending. It just stops in a cliffhanger to force you to buy the second book. Which feels like such a scarcity mentality that the author won't have new good ideas for the next book. Or not trusting the readers to care enough about the characters and world to read a sequel. The time and heart that does into reading a novel should be honored with an ending. This kind of marketing ploy feels like a breaking of the fundamental agreement about how novels work. And now I don't trust the storyteller (really, the publisher, I assume) to take me safely to the end of the journey, and so I don't want to read any more of their stuff.

(f/f, scifi, YA, dystopian). This book was fabulous! The authoritarian controlled, god-like mechas, the vivid world of the pilots, and the even more vivid world of the scrappy gearbreaker children who live to take them down. Evocative prose and vivid, driven characters. Can’t wait for the sequel!

I think my brain is too small for scifi because i kept speeding over the descriptions to read the dialogue and then had no idea what was going on, but that’s on me and my soft brain. The perspective switching also confused me a lot but again maybe i’m just dumb

 - Wow, what a ride GEARBREAKERS is! It's the slow burn sapphic mecha pilot burn the world down story I didn't know I needed.
- The battle scenes in this book are AWESOME. I was on the edge of my seat every time.
- I do think there were maybe a few too many characters in the crew to keep track of, and I wanted a bit more worldbuilding, but I'm hoping that all comes in the sequel. I'm following Eris and Sona through to the (probably bitter) end.
