This book as short as it was was still able to pull at my heartstrings. The way a connection can grip you and stay with you your whole life, that two people can be consumed by the same shared experiences, yet living their lives so differently.

“This smile devastated me for a long time after- I know that Thomas consented to this single picture only because he knew (had decided) that it was our last moment together. He smiled so that I could take his smile with me.”

Note: I am absolutely shocked to be feeling as much as I am, I couldn’t have imagined I could feel so deeply after reading not even two-hundred pages. I feel as though I’ve been hit in the face, lightheaded full of thoughts where really there aren’t thoughts at all, just a strong sense of feeling.

It's been a while since I read this book, so bear with me. What I seem to remember most is the prose from this book. It was really gorgeous. What I got from this book was "the one that got away" - how your first love affects the rest of your life. It's very intimate and was very moving at times. It's a short little book, but the emotions it conveyed were very strong. I would recommend it. Toodles!
