lovely illustration, I loved the story but felt it was a bit underdeveloped. My favorite part is Aros speaking to Hades about wanting the pain of the arrow to remain *sigh.

"Flowers don't bloom in the dark."

This was a very cute, fun read!
This did inevitably remind me of Lore Olympus, but wayyy faster in terms of the love story between Hades and Persephone (if you like one, you will definitely like the other). Hades was a sweet, stand-up guy, and Persephone was soft yet strong. I also appreciated everything the author did, and she did a lot with only 164 pages - all the nods to other Greek myths, her art style, and the monochromatic-ish colour story.
This story was just a good time all around!

I don't think I'm the only one who enjoys Greek mythology and all the reinterpretations that have been made of it. One of the most famous stories is, obviously, the one about Hades x Persephone if they paid me for every time I've read something by these two, whatever...

I liked that they not only included these two characters but also gave rise to other legends and myths such as those of Apollo, Daphne or Hera. I really liked seeing them in comics.

Now, for the drawing style and aesthetics. I like the autumnal and warm color palette, I like it because it's not overloaded, also the contrast with the underworld and the colors of Hades is more noticeable. On the other hand, I didn't like the way it was drawn, some strokes were too rough for me and I don't know, I didn't end up delighted.

All in all, a good comic to pass the time.

Man, Hades and Persephone really are the IT couple at the moment huh? Between Lore Olympus and Neon Gods, along with dozens of others, it feels like Greek Mythology retellings have really become a trend in Winter 2021 going into 2022. As a fan of mythology, I am all about this, especially because every adaptation so far has been very different.

This is a good example of how different these adaptations can be. In most of them, they touch on the fact that Persephone and Hades’ relationship as it’s…issues, to say the least, but this one full-on ignores those aspects. Instead, it leans into Persephone really wanting Hades and to be with him, despite some wayward arrows sent by Eros. As usual, all men in this book (aside from Hades) are sexual predators who try to use magic and force to get women to be with them, so they can all rot. At least that is consistent with the original mythology.

In this, Persephone originally admires Hades because of his intimidating presence, as she is often ignored, and her opinions cast aside. When Eros strikes Hades with a wayward arrow, he wants the attraction to her to end, but even as he tries to quell his love for her, he cannot. Persephone also yearns to escape her tiny corner of the world and seek adventure, but her powers and mother are tying her to the Earth. The last bit of this book is pretty sexy and has some sexual imagery (exposed breasts, lots of roaming hands, and implied actions) so it goes from 0 to 100 relatively quickly. I really loved the art, especially the way the illustrator worked with a very limited color palette to bring the story alive.

If you’re a fan of mythology or just love a good graphic novel, this is a solid choice.

What you see is what you get with this myth’s retellings. Giving Persephone her agency and removing the more questionable elements isn’t new. But if you’re not tired of that (which I somehow am not when it comes to comics??) this is a very beautiful entry to the collection. It sprinkles in other myths and some notable faces which I appreciated, and has a simple but very evocative art style.
