** I received an ARC copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. **

I love The Nightmare Before Christmas so naturally I loved this manga novel. Jun Asuka did a really good job with the manga illustrations that it didn't distract from the story at all for those that may be wondering if it strays too far from Burton's vision for the movie.

Absolutely love this manga. It brings across the existential crisis that Jack is going through, and brings new dimensions to the story told in the movie. If you are a fan of the movie and philosophically leaning manga, then you must read this. The art is beautiful, and truly captures the spirit of the film.

I expected to love this as the film is one of my favourites and I did enjoy reading it but I don't feel it adds anything extra to the story. Doesn't seem very manga like to be honest and is just a straightforward retelling of the story in comic form. I enjoyed the snatches of lyrics from the film but was left feeling a little 'so what? ' which was disappointing.

A decent retelling of the film with some cool art. However, it adds very little to the film’s narrative and visual identity. If you want to enjoy this story at its best, just watch the movie.

Thanks to NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

And to be honest; it doesn't really work in this format for me. I love the film - but without the movement and music, the manga version just falls flat.
