The Lost Art of Sinking by Naomi Booth

Gothic bog heaven. With gothic novels, there's usually a hazy, mysterious setting, and this is only heightened by the premise of a main character obsessed with fainting. Esther moves through life from the backseat- a lot of stuff happens to her but she doesn't really process it because she's busy disassociating through her 'fainting game'.
Lowkey nothing happens or goes anywhere, but I'm into that so... sure!

Esther found her mother's body when she was a child. Since then she has been experimenting with making herself faint. She had come to believe that if she manages the perfect swoon, in front of the perfect audience, she will somehow reconnect with her mother.
Sad and quirky, Esther is a fascinating character.

Loved this! One that’s been on my shelf for the longest time, and it was a perfect quick read. Would definitely recommend.

Enjoyable read but left me wanting more in terms of an escalation of the fainting game. I almost feel that it didn't go far enough? Doesn't quite make my top list of unhinged female protagonists, my favourite genre.
