The Silent Girl
3 Stars

First 1/3 is slow and lacks direction, however, the book becomes more enjoyable once the action heats up and things begin to make sense.

The character development is virtually non-existent and what little there is in the form of Maura's conflict with the men-in-blue and the progression of Angela Rizzoli's relationship with Vince Korsak feels tacked on.

The mystery of the massacre at a Chinese restaurant and the missing girls is intriguing but the resolution is predictable and the villain obvious. Moreover, not enough detail is provided concerning the underlying crimes and the answers, rather than stemming from strong investigative skills, are merely handed to the reader on a silver platter.

All in all, the last two installments in the Rizzoli and Isles series have not lived up to their potential. I only hope that the next one is better.

Always enjoy the Rizzoli & Isles books. This was no exception. Trouble sure does have a way of finding Jane. Maybe I like this series because it is full of strong women!

Really good mystery. I liked Rizzoli & Isles' relationship more in the TV show though. I read most of the previous books years ago, but maybe I should re-read them because I didn't catch some of the references to previous events in this one...

NOTE: Silent Girl reminded me of why I fell in love with the Rizzoli and Isles series in the first place. If you love a good thriller then this book should be on your list to read!

What I Loved: The Chinese history and tradition used in this book was amazing. It added depth and character to an already richly woven thriller that had you guessing for a long while. This was a mostly Rizzoli story and that played well as you got to figure out the case with her. Detective Tam was introduced in this story,I hope he sticks around for awhile or gets his own series.

What I Liked: I think this story brought Isles back to being a likable character for me. The things she is having to go through with her job and personal life are making for some interesting character building moments. I do like how they kind of crossed over each other in this story.

Complaints: None

Why I gave it a 4.75: This was just a really good thriller that had me guessing for the most of the book. I really enjoyed every minute spent reading the story!

I love the depth each character has and how her stories are so different yet are very well researched which makes it so much more interesting. I feel like I always learn something from her books. The only thing missing was Maura, why didn’t we see as much of her in this book :(( I love Jane but I think this is the least we’ve seen Maura for a good while :/
