Drawn Together is a very powerful and emotional book with so few words that it touches the hearts of all who may read by using art in order to close the communication barrier by the two characters in the book. The illustrations in this book are beautifully done and convey its message that regardless of language barriers there are other ways to communicate with others and find a happy medium to better understand one another.

Rounding up from 4.5. Beautiful message of how human connection and creative expression can transcend the barriers of language and generational differences.

Beautiful, simple and sweet. The illustrations do the talking, appropriately. And they are lovely.

Sooooo cute!!!!!!! There is nothing like language barriers to build unnecessary walls between people. The characters are a gradfather and grandson who cannot communicate.
SpoilerAfter finding a shared love of art they find a way to "talk" to each other and finally understand one another.
This is a beautiful story with few words. The illustrations are absolutely stunning. Well done.

I am a sucker for wordless picture books. And while "Drawn Together" is not fully wordless, the impact of the book lies in the illustrations.

It's the story of a boy who has a language barrier with his grandfather. Neither can understand each other. But through the shared love of art and storytelling, they find that they are no so different after all! They manage to defeat the danger (as evidenced by the dragon) that threatens to vanquish them. One of the best elements of the book lies in the end pages...when the boy leaves with his grandfather's paintbrush and the grandfather has his marker.

Dan Santat already has Caldecott recognition under his belt. It would not surprise me if "Drawn Together" adds another accolade to his name.
